Do any other straight people like to hang out in “gay friendly” communities?

I prefer men when it comes to sex and dating, but I find that I really enjoy visiting gay friendly cities and neighborhoods, such as Northampton, MA; Portland, ME, and the Greenwich village section of New York. I love the counter-culture vibe in these areas: the hippie/bohemian apparel, the folk music, the independently owned shops that sell handmade gifts; the used book stores; the cafes that serve fairly traded coffee, free-range chicken, organic vegetables, and homemade ice cream; etc. I think it’s because such communities were liberal and counter-cultural to begin with, so naturally they accept gays. Do any other straight people love these communities?

Well, I live in Portland, Maine and I have to tell you, its not the bohemian wonderland that you seem to think it is. Sure, it has those things, but that’s only one part of the culture here. There is a lot of class separation here, and if you’re poor it can be a brutal, cold place to live. Also, you have to have a car to get anywhere around here which is also opposite of the hippie-ville image that you see on the surface.

Anyways, as a straight girl, I’ve hung out in 2 of the 3 gay bars that Portland has to offer. Its fun because there’s no pressure or other girls competing for guys’ attention.

Ok, my fiance and I are planning our wedding. We have the place figured out, and the color’s as well. We know what date.

Check on craigslist. I ended up finding a girl just starting out in her photography business.She has done photography as a hobby for years, but decided to open her own business. We will buy the film (to use in her fancy camera). She will take photos all day, give us all the images on a CD and the rights to reproduce the images in exchange for her using our photos in her albums to show potential clients. In addition to that, we have asked a friend who loves taking photos to accompany us as well. Our close family members are aware of the whole photography situation and will be taking as many pics as they can. In the day and age of digital cameras, you can photoshop them into exactly what you want.

Also, there are some really great alternatives to cake. Keep in mind that they can make a faux cake for presentation purposes (making 1 or 2 layers real for cutting and keeping), then serve sheet cake to the guests (which they guests don’t see). Check with any wholesale places (out here we have Costco and BJ’s for the sheet cakes).

I’ve seen a few weddings that in lieu of favors have donated $ to a charity.

The centerpieces aren’t too bad, especially if you are crafty. If you are going for elegant, sometimes the simpler the better. That in itself will save you money.

My sister had a winter wedding and we carried fur muffs (which looked amazing!) instead of flowers. The church already had poinsettias and she saved a TON of money, only buying her bouquet and the corsages/boutonnieres for the groomsman and close family members and rose petals to throw onto the couple as they exited the church. (She spent $200 on flowers)

The US financial situation will see serious improvement as we move on into the year 2011/12. Back in December 2007 I prepared the world for what would become the current crisis with US economy and gave the date of March 2011 for its end. It seems I was yet, once again right as we approach the end of 2010. Jupiter impact will force Mexico, Spain, Portugal and all Latino countries to undergo a total change of regime where bloody revolutions will take many lives. I see a form of “revolution” in the US too around July 2010 where politicians will battle with themselves and the media to get reelected. I see President Obama doing serious work in foreign land resuscitating the US image to the world. But I see him also in danger while flying Air Force One. I see a lot of bad press against him with caricatures and jokes that will vex many. The President is writing a book (secret) that express the depth of his wishes and fears, his hopes and wishes for his country and the world at large, knowing *subconsciously he is a serious target for assassination. One of his children will make difficult news and the first Lady will get sick (or contract a disease) and will be forced to rest (June/December 2010/2011)

Parts of the world (even a US city) will suffer seriously due to food shortage/medications as mother earth restructures her entrails right under it. Helping the victims will become a serious challenge due to the total destruction of the local infrastructure. Let’s hope this “vision” is far from materializing as I also see danger with wild animals running free. Expect the worse during the Full and New Moon of June/December 2011 as Jupiter and Mercury will make hard aspects to other destructive planets. England is a Capricorn country and will undergo the same changes where many of the members of Royal family will experience dramatic experiences. The Royal family may also suffer a death by malady or accident. UK residents will find themselves jobless bringing more stress to the government and its political decisions. Update November 21st, 2010 – In Birmingham, a UK city hit hard even before the recession and one that displays many of the tensions experienced across Europe, suspicion and hostility toward asylum seekers, especially Muslims, is much in evidence.

The century’s old man made King/Queen status and its entire snobby privilege selected children will see the beginning of a crumble induced by the humanitarian “all equals” energetic pull of the New Age of Aquarius. November 18th 2010 – CNN – Royal engagement reveals less deferential, more meritocratic Britain.

On a more personal note all souls born in June and December or those born with a rising in any of these signs will undergo a full restructure of their lives. The Jupiter/Mercury impact will affect general relationships and partnerships at large. Affairs involving brothers/sisters could become also a source of conflict or worse produce fatalities. But in reality this “death” did not have to happen, yes it did not have to! Had Jeff known his relationship to the divine, his dragon the physical weakness of his karmic UCI, chances are he would have had enough information to BEAT death. No car in San Francisco?

I am moving to San Francisco this summer and am thinking about going car-free. I know I will love the massive amounts of money I will save but I feel like I will be losing some independence. It can be unreliable at times, some of the bus stops have clocks that tell you when the next bus is coming, or you can call the muni number. Many buses run late, however taxis are never hard to find. If you call in advance for a taxi use De Soto (yellow sucks!). There are also trains and cable cars to get around.
In terms of leaving the city, there is the BART to go to the south or east bay, and the Golden Gate Transit buses that go as far as Sonoma. I’ve used these and never had a problem.
If you’re worried about dating, there are always cabs and City Car Share. It’s kinda like renting a car but its cheap (only 5/hr and 44c/miI think).
In the end its really up to you. Only one of my friends here has a car, and parking is terrible so she only uses it to drive home to Santa Barbara every once in a while. Likewise, a majority of my professors use BART or Muni to get to campus.
